It's hard to hear things we don't like. Very few of us went to a Feedback 101 class while growing up. We've missed the fundamentals that teach us how to be open and receptive, especially when things touch a nerve. Most people jump straight to an emotional reaction.
Plus, if you are a manager who GIVES feedback, unexpected feedback responses typically throw a wrench when you least expect it. Learning more about how people are wired to receive feedback helps us on both sides of the feedback dynamic.
