My Favorite Leadership & Managing Resources
I’m sharing a list of resources that have my ear at the moment. Whether it’s a newsletter, a podcast, or an influencer on social, I have a few that get my attention on a regular basis and might help as you manage and lead your team.
@jefferson_fisher (Instagram) – This trial lawyer is surprisingly SO good with his advice on communication and conflict. He shares succinct messages on topics such as, “How to Argue with Someone Who Won’t Listen,” and “How to Bring up Sensitive Topics.”
@askvinh (Instagram) – I can’t stop listening to Vinh! First, I admire his keynote speaking ability. Second, his advice is so simple and yet powerful at the same time. He talks about presentation skills, leadership advice, and just all-around helpful snippets on being a better communicator.
@fannyb_gc (IG and Tik Tok) – I catch this woman on IG reels, and if you want a light-hearted mix in your feed, follow her. She shares hilarious anecdotes as “Laura from HR” and hit right at the heart of employee relations. If you are a manager and can identify with all the frustrating challenges that come your way, this account counters all that with a bit of humor.
@jesseitzler (Instagram) - I feel like I should know who this guy is, but I don’t. He’s just someone in my feed that I stop on almost every time. He doles out life advice that’s disguised as business advice. My favorite video of his that I’ve shared with quite a few friends is called “These 3 Things Will Change Your Life.” Have a listen.
At The Table (iTunes Podcast) – Hosted by Patrick Lencioni (Author of The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team) - This podcast consistently shares advice for managers. He addresses common and relatable challenges, and I learn something in every single episode.
Motivation with Brendon Burchard (iTunes Podcast) – I am coming back around to Brendon Burchard lately and always find his advice easy to listen to. He has an easygoing personality and shares strategies that apply to almost every area of your life. Search for episodes titled "Mashup" - these are edited compilations on a single topic. I feel like I get so much out of however much time I dedicate to an episode.
3-2-1 Thursday Newsletter by James Clear – Right now, this is pretty much the only newsletter I read every week, the second it lands in my inbox. The quickest, most powerful read filled with short thoughts to get your wheels turning about your habits, your leadership, and your life.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HR DIRECTORS
This is a good reminder to encourage continuous learning within your organization. While I hope I’m one of the voices you follow (since you’re here, after all 👏👏), there should be a few more influencing your approach.
As an HR leader, promoting a learning culture is key. When you guide managers to stay curious and open to new ideas, you model the behaviors you want to see reflected across the organization. Consider suggesting a podcast or resource that resonates with you in your manager meetings, or perhaps gifting a book like Atomic Habits to a colleague to spark meaningful discussions.
Sharing and learning together strengthens leadership across all levels.
After all, great leaders are always learners.
